Cactus - George, South Africa

photo of toilet at Coyote Cactus Cafe in George South Africa

Today, The Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from Coyote Cactus Cafe, a Mexican bar and restaurant in George, South Africa.

Cactus is famous for its wood oven pizza, fantastic chili poppers, and magical ability to suck you in, get you drunk, and then spit you back out onto the pavement. Usually with a smile on your face and usually after some extended dance sessions on the bar counter to Roxette. Sounds painful, but it's like crack: you'll be back next week for more.

Coyote Cactus is home to an eclectic collection of locals from all across the Garden Route. The locals keep the bar busy during the quiet season and it's a favorite destination for vacationers over the summer holidays.

The toilets at Cactus are pretty well know for many things. Probably best for being a place where new relationships can blossom over night but also where old ones come to an end. The tiling on the walls are beautiful. One can spend hours looking for meaning and repetition in the patterns. Its also a large bathroom. If it were a closet, it would be a walk-in closet. All round, a big thumbs up from the Toilets of the World team.

Having recently expanded to include more seating, a band stage, and a second bar counter (or dance floor) things seem to be going well. If the owner's liver lasts, Cactus will most certainly see many more fantastic years.

All the best,

-- The Toilets of the World Team

In case you wanted the address, Coyote Cactus is located on 29 Courtney Street, almost across the road from a KFC.

The Tempest - San Francisco, California

photo of toilet at The Tempest in San Francisco California

Today, the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from The Tempest, a bar in San Francisco California.

This photo was submitted by Captain Awesome. He didn't say much about it but with a toilet like this, you don't really have to.

From the yelp page we've learned that The Tempest is currently owned by 3 San Francisco bar tenders who, having pooled their money together, bought The Tempest in 2010. The previous owners, Eric and Darla Kubala established it in 1991.

Perhaps this review from Charlie on Yelp sums it up best:

"So I came here to meet a friend that I hadn't seen in years. After suggesting different bars and times to meet up he said Tempest.

I get there, catch up with my friend. He introduces me to the $5 Jim beam shot and PBR.

At first I think, "hmm" but then immediately I say "hells to the fucking yeah"!

We drink. I blackout.
I love this place.
The End."

The meatloaf and mashed potatoes are supposed to be great as well.

Bud & Alley's - Seaside, Florida

photo of toilet at Bud and Alley's in Seaside Florida

Today, the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from Bud & Alley's in Seaside, Florida.

This photo was submitted by Uncle Steve who assures us that this picture was not staged. According to Uncle Steve, there is a powerful hand dryer located next to this toilet which caused the toilet paper to move into the bowl, all by it self.

Bud & Alley's, named after one owners dachshund (Bud) and the other owners cat (Alley), has been ringing in the sunset over this coastal town for 25 years and counting. Having recently added an authentic Taco bar and then even more recently a Pizza Bar, the future looks bright for this Seaside institution.

Perhaps just turn down the power of your hand dryer.

-- The Toilets of the World Team

Interesting fact:
The town of Seaside is a master planned community and was used as the main filming location for the movie, "The Truman Show".

Silver Creek Bar - Shamrock, Texas

photo of toilet at Silver Creek Bar in Shamrock Texas

Today, the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from the Silver Creek Bar in Shamrock, Texas.

The Silver Creek Bar was opened as soon as its county went from being a dry county* to a happy county. An old gas station was quickly converted into a nice little watering hole. When we visited, the food you ordered was being delivered by another restaurant in town and the bartenders (also bar owners) were having a discussion about what exactly goes in a screwdriver. All normal things for a bar in a county where its only been legal to serve alcohol for 3 weeks.

The addition of the bear toilet paper stand gives us great hope for this bar. The Toilets of the World team firmly believe in bear servitude. Getting bears to do jobs like holding toilet paper, is a great start. All the best to you Silver Creek Bar.

* A dry county is a county in which the sale of liquor is forbidden.

O.R. Tambo International Airport - Johannesburg, South Africa

photo of toilet at O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg South Africa

Today, the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

Formerly know as Jan Smuts International, then Johannesburg International and now O.R. Tambo International, this is Africa's busiest airport with the capacity to handle up to 28, 000, 000 passengers annually. It holds the distinction of having received the worlds first jetliner flight (a de Havilland Comet) with fare-paying passengers from London Heathrow Airport and is one of only a few airports in the world that has direct flights to all 6 inhabited continents.

In 2006 O.R. Tambo Airport made the news after gunmen armed with AK-47 assault rifles held up guards and police while helping themselves to bags of currency flown in from Britain. The South Africa Police Service managed to quickly recover most of the stolen cash. The recovered cash was promptly re-stolen from the Benoni police station two months later.

The toilet, as you can see, is much less exciting.

Mt Rushmore - Keystone, South Dakota

photo of toilet at mt rushmore near keystone south dakota

Today, the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from Mt Rushmore near Keystone in South Dakota.

A lot has been written about the Mt Rushmore memorial and the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln which was carved into the side of the mountain over a period of 14 years. The 60 foot sculptures attract about 2 million visitors each year. We decided to go find out where they all pee.

Nothing special. A standard clean white bowl with automated flushing awaited us. We had hoped that the toilets might be sculpted into the heads of naughty presidents with their mouths open but found nothing of the sorts.

After documenting this disappointment, we went outside and took pictures of Asians taking pictures of themselves in front of Mt Rushmore. A great sight indeed.

The Electric Lady - Madison, Indiana

photo of toilet at the electric lady in madison indiana

Today, the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from The Electric Lady, a bar in Madison, Indiana.

When standing at this metal wonder, taking a slightly intoxicated leak and looking at your reflections in the surrounding metal walls, one can't help but think about prison. We have no idea if this is what real prison toilets look like, but we hope so. Perhaps one of our incarcerated readers will send us a picture.

What we do know is that the Electric Lady is an amazing bar. We also know it was named after a Jimi Hendrix album called, The Electric Ladyland. Its been around as a bar since 1988 and has a mysterious ability to get its patrons pretty liquored up. No Toilets of the World reporter has ever left sober. It is also probably Magneto's favorite toilet ever.

Victorian Inn - Luray, Virginia

photo of toilet at victorian inn luray virginia

Today, the Toilets of the World blog brings you a toilet from the Victorian Inn, in Luray, Virginia.

This sculpture of a smiling, half bald old man holding a tray containing tissue paper is not a feature found next to most toilets, but the Victorian Inn B&B had the balls to put him there.

Perhaps its a "shout out" to the sculptor William Randolph Barbee who practiced law in Luray, VA before moving to Italy. Perhaps the owner just has a creepy sense of humor. Perhaps this is not a sculpture at all but a really shiny dwarf man. Either way, the Toilets of the World blog applauds what's happening in this Victorian Inn bathroom.

This photo was submitted by a man from Ireland who now resides in the US. His name is Paul. He is a Murphy.

Bartlette's Tavern : Home of the Dead Pecker Inn - Altus, Arkansas

Today, the Toilets of the World blog brings you a toilet from Bartlette's Tavern : Home of the Dead Pecker Inn, in Altus, Arkansas.

Altus, located in the heart of Arkansas wine country, is a small farming town which is home to less than one thousand people. It is also home to Bartlette's Tavern which is home to the Dead Pecker Inn, which in turn is home to this bizarrely located bar stool. Have you ever seen anything like it? Couldn't this get confusing after several beers and some shots? Do you see yourself aiming for the can or sitting on the wrong seat?

The Toilets of the World Team had a very nice chat about this toilet while playing pool and sipping our PBR's from cozy's provided by the establishment. It was awesome and the patrons some of the friendliest people we've met.

Interesting fact about Altus; it was home to Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie during the filming of the first season of The Simple Life.

Victoria Falls - Livingstone Island, Zambia

photo of toilet at victoria falls livingstone island zambia

Today, the Toilets of the World blog brings you a toilet from the top of Victoria Falls on Livingstone Island in Zambia.

This photo was submitted by Dustin Koopsman and it has made us very happy for some time now. The toilet model (Russel De Wet) ensures us that from your throne, you can see the Zambezi river flowing past. That must be amazing. He also said that once the camera buggered off it was a champion of a shit. His words.

Great one Dustin, we like.

Doc's Bar and Grill - Sioux Center, Iowa

photo of toilet at doc's bar and grill in sioux center iowa

Today, the Toilets of the World blog brings you a toilet from Doc's Bar and Grill in Sioux Center, Iowa.

With a population of about 7000 residents, Sioux Center might not sound like the greatest place to visit on a road trip, but thanks to Doc's, some new friends, and a turtle, it ended up being a pretty cool night.

Drinks were cheap and the atmosphere was relaxed. Tequila flowed and pints kept coming. The Toilets of the World Team was having a great time. Even when closing, the bar was very-kind. Kind enough to let us carry out 21 PBR's.

We at the Toilets of the World blog love toilet graffiti. Eeven when its done by management. The message here is true and we agree with the good people at Doc's: Flush Every Time.

Thanks for a great time and all the best,

The Hilton - Atlantic City, New Jersey

photo of toilet at the hilton in atlantic city new jersey

Today the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from the Hilton hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Gambling's not our thing but the Toilets of the World team did have a great time drinking the free booze at the casino while slowly but surely losing our money on the penny slots. After drinking what we could and taking a picture of this insanely boring toilet, the team left the hotel, gave away our last remaining $10 to a man with a guitar and decided to go for a walk on the the beach which is conveniently situated right near the hotel.

The toilet at the Hilton casino was very clean even though the lid was a bit broken. We did not stay at the hotel so we can't tell you much about it. Sorry. we're sure its just fine.

Big Boy - Coldwater, Michigan

photo of toilet at big boy in coldwater michigan

Today, the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from the Big Boy restaurant in Coldwater Michigan.

When you grow up watching the Austin Powers movies with the Big Boy statue as Dr. Evil's spaceship, you can't help but get excited about actually visiting one of these fast food joints.

When the Toilets of the World team showed up, the first thing we did was get our pictures taken next to the iconic statue of the tubby six year old boy in overalls, who liked the burgers so much that he would sweep the floors of the restaurant to earn himself a "free" burger. Child labor?

We sat down, ordered our food and started salivating. As the team waited, we recited famous quotes from the Austin Powers movies. Like idiots, some team members even put their pinky finger next to their mouths and did the Dr Evil laugh. There were layoffs in the morning.

After finishing our food, something started happening in this team members stomach and I knew it was go time. I grabbed my camera to document the toilet (as we Toilets of the World blog members tend to do) and made my way to the bathroom hoping to make a comfortable deposit into a clean bowl. This was not the case. It stank in their, it stank bad. Urine covered the floor and even worse, the toilet rim. I wished I could run outside, jump into the Big Boy spaceship and go somewhere with a clean bowl.

We don't want to badmouth this toilet or this establishment. We know its probably not like this all the time. But this is what it was like when we visited and we blog about toilets.

Moon Time - Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

photo of toilet at moon time in coeur d alene idaho

Today, the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from Moon Time in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

The team stopped here for some burgers and beer on our way to the Gorge in Washington State for the Sasquach Music Festival. Moon Time has a very good beer selection and they serve some very good looking and very good tasting food. The Mediterranean lamb burger was amazing. We also heard some very good things about the soup.

The toilet is a bit plain and leans towards the clean cut modern style. The set of two toilet rolls is nice to see, nobody likes asking for more toilet paper after taking a large dump.

All round, nice job Moon Time.

Oh, and Ellen Travolta (oldest sibling of John Travolta) apparently lives in Coeur d'Alene. Who knew?

Karoo Retreat - Oudtshoorn, South Africa

photo of toilet at shades of africa in oudtshoorn south africa

Today, the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from the Karoo Retreat, a B&B in Oudtshoorn, South Africa.

The Karoo Retreat is a very cool looking place. They use simple art created out of simple objects to spice up the look of the establishment. The toilet is nice and clean. A simple tiled pattern on the wall lends some color to the room but other than that there's not much is going on here.

With the start of the "Klein Karoo Nationale Kunstefees", a big Afrikaans arts festival in Oudtshoorn, we hope all you drunk 16 - 24 year olds find a nice clean bowl, like this one, when the need is upon you.

We know this will not always be the case.

Enjoy the festival!

Kaya - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

photo of toilet at kaya in pittsburgh pennsylvania

Today, the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from Kaya in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.

Kaya is a Caribbean/Latin American/Pacific restaurant in the colorful Strip District in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They serve bright and fresh island food and from the smell coming out the kitchen, you can tell that whatever you order will be good.

The toilet doesn't seem that interesting but after walking through the visually busy and colorful restaurant this is perhaps a good thing. The team really enjoyed the the blue tiles on the walls. It reminds us of peeing in a swimming pool which is usually frowned upon.

Good show Kaya.

Meeting Street Cafe - Providence, Rhode Island

photo of toilet at meeting street cafe in providence rhode island

Today, to ring in the new year, the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from the Meeting Street Cafe in Providence, Rhode Island.

This great sandwich shop with an equally great "bring your own booze" policy, is a happy place. To make sure of this, they serve more than 40 different types of sandwiches. There is also a liquor store right below the sandwich shop, just in case you run out of happy juice.

But even more amazing is the peaceful feeling they've created in the bathroom. The rocks, real plants and textured wall tiles work together to create a very relaxing defecating space.

So happy 2011 from the Toilets of the World team. May all the toilets you visit this year bring you peace, prosperity and satisfactory bowl movements. May your toilet paper never run out, your seat never crack and your flushing mechanisms run smoothly. Find relaxation, inspiration and not constipation in this fresh new year.
