Michelin-starred restaurant - Denia, Spain

photo of toilet at a Michelin starred restaurant in Denia Spain

Today the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from Denia, Spain.

This very interesting and somewhat confusing toilet was sent in by Sarah Davis.

Here's what she has to say:

"The glass wall is full of wine bottle corks and this is obviously the mans urinal ( I accidently wondered into the gents after the mirrored wall I was looking at slid open as I approached it. It was very odd ) Apparently on flush, the wall acts as a waterfall... (although I didn't hang around to witness that personally)"

Thanks Sarah, sure it was an accident stumbling into the gents...We love the wine bottle corks and thanks for the great explanation of how this urinal actually works.

Mali - Somewhere in the Sahel

photo of toilet in mali

Today the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from somewhere in the Sahel area of Mali. If you recognize this one, please send us the location. And go see a doctor.

Having never been to the Sahel area ourselves, we looked it up on Wikipedia. We found that desertification is becoming a problem in the area as a result of over-farming, over-grazing and natural soil erosion. A serious problem to be sure. We don't have a solution and can only hope that someone smarter will come along and fix this.

We are told that peeing on the desert will not help.

This photo was sent in by Marc Delport, an old friend of the Toilets of the World collection.

Thanks Marc.

Bohemia - Stellenbosch, South Africa

photo of toilet at Bohemia in Stellenbosch South Africa

Today the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from Bohemia, a fantastic bar in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

This toilet is known for being one of the dirtiest ones in Stellenbosch. The bar however is one of the best. Hookah's, great pizza's, foosball, cheap beer and boxed wine come together in a happy drunken haze the memory of which still makes us smile.

The police also held a pretty stupid raid here once.

The Toilets of the World recently revisited Bohemia and found that the bathrooms have been updated and are much cleaner. The drunken haze its known for however, is still much the same.

Mad Mex - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

photo of toilet at Mad Mex in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania

Today, The Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from Mad Mex, a bar in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

The team went up to Pittsburgh for a surprise birthday party (those are always great aren't they...) and to spend thanksgiving there with some friends. The skyline view, the strip district, the beer, the Square Cafe and then this toilet at Mad Mex.

Mad Mex serves good, fresh and interesting food. We think. It has a great beer selection, that much we know. The interior design was very colorful and fun we believe. Whatever, who cares, we had fun and this gem of a toilet makes a fantastic addition to our collection.

Keep up the good work Mad Mex.

McDonalds - Morgantown, West Virginia

photo of toilet at McDonalds in Morgantown West Virginia

Today the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from a McDonalds in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Well, not much to say about this one. Stopped for a burger and some fries on our way through town.

Clearly the McDonald's fast food chain doesn't care much about their shitters. Sure its nice and clean, but what a bore. Its a shame. We say bring Ronald McDonald into the bathroom. Give us something more fun to place our urine and feces into please. The kids have their playground, give the grown ups something too.

Charles de Gaulle Airport - Paris, France

photo of toilet at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris France

Today the Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet from the Charles de Gaulle Airport in France.

We spent a 12 hour layover at the Charles de Gaulle airport drinking Johnnie Red and heckling the French for not letting us, the Toilets of the World team, into their country.

At least our time there yielded this orange toilet. Most of the airport had the same horribly depressing orange theme going on. Or at least thats what we remember. The toilet being the same color seems to support our hazy memory.

Plan B - Hartford, Connecticut

photo of toilet at Plan B in Hartford Connecticut

Today, The Toilets of the World Blog brings you a toilet form Plan B. A great bar/restaurant in Hartford, Connecticut.

We thought we'd never find it. The Toilets of the World team walked for what felt like miles through West Hartford's perfectly manicured neighborhoods. We saw the three-story houses that looked as though they could have been barns long ago. We saw families doing family things, like riding bikes and wearing all the proper safety gear: Helmets, elbow pads, reflectors. So this is New England, I said to myself. Nice. Safe. Slightly Boring.

We turned left onto what appeared to be a main drag, hoping we'd find Plan B, the bar we had read about that was said to house a host of magical delights: hundreds of bottled and draft microbrews, and a cornucopia of meaty treats. Our stomachs growled as we walked past the Quaker Diner; we cursed the tanning and hair salons that lined the streets. So this is New England, I thought: Upscale hairdressers on, quite literally, every corner; Quaker eateries; and a bar called Plan B that doesn't seem to exist.

Just when we decided we'd taken a wrong turn, we saw a gigantic neon Bud Light sign for a Mexican restaurant and in its shadows sat Plan B, a modest but classy establishment where the hostess greeted us warmly, where the flavorful beer flowed generously, where the burgers tasted like burgers, and where our server treated us like friends rather than customers. So this is New England, I thought. I could get used to it here.
